The PLA ULTRA from VOLUMIC has a little-known property. It can shift its Glass Transition (TG) threshold from 50° to 140°.
What we are looking for when an object printed in PLA Ultra :
First, increase its TG (up to 140°C), then slightly increase its resistance. The double advantage of this process is that it in no way alters the aesthetics/finish of your part. To fully benefit from the advantages of annealing, the part must be printed with 100% linear filling. (the part must be full).
The processes are as follows:
In water :
1. Immerse your object in water at room temperature, using a light grid (so as not to distort it by weight during annealing).
2. Bring to the boil and boil for 10 minutes.
3. Turn off and allow to cool gradually.
In a kiln :
1. Place your object in the oven at room temperature.
2. Heat slowly to 95°, then bake for two hours.
3. Turn off the oven and allow to cool as gradually as possible to room temperature.
Do not open the oven in the meantime, as this could cause thermal shock and the annealing process to fail!
NB: Oven processes are preferable, as boiling with bubbles and other eddies could cause too much turbulence (and therefore damage) to the piece.
La recuisson (eau ou four) engendre un retrait sur le PLA qu’il faut prendre en compte sur les côtes des pièces en question si elles sont précises. Une perte de 2 à 3 dixièmes en moins une fois recuite est à prévoir.
